In addition to having access to existing research infrastructure, the position holders are offered special grants for own research and development. If you have high ambitions within both research and teaching, Örebro University would like to offer you the best conditions for a future career with us.

The department of Statistics
Örebro University School of Business is host to the Department of Statistics at Örebro University and offers statistics courses and programmes at the undergraduate, Master’s and doctoral levels. In addition to the Bachelor’s degree programme in statistics, the department also offers courses on the Programme for Business and Economics and several social science programmes, as well as on programmes within healthcare sciences, science and engineering. At the Master’s level, a two-year programme in statistics, which was recently given the award “European Master in Official Statistics” (EMOS) by Eurostat, is offered. The Master’s programme also offers a specialisation in econometrics.

Research at the department is primarily focused on econometrics, time series analysis and survey methodology and is carried out with close links to applied fields. There is for instance collaboration with Statistics Sweden and with the Department of Economics at Örebro University. A new initiative is to explore the prerequisites for production of official statistics when user demands on the statistics produced are increasing and when the execution of traditional sample surveys are becoming increasingly challenging. Here, alterative data sources, such as “Big Data”, are expected to play a major part.

The position
Duties and responsibilities involve research, teaching and collaboration. During the period of employment, an associate senior lecturer shall develop their autonomy as a researcher and acquire further qualifications in terms of both research and teaching skills to meet the criteria for a position as a tenured senior lecturer. An associate senior lecturer shall also contribute to the University’s development.

Duties and responsibilities consist of 70% own research and 30% teaching and administration. The languages of instruction are Swedish and English and teaching may be required at all levels.

In terms of research focus, the person we are looking for is expected to contribute with research on the use of alternative data sources, for example “Big Data”, for the production of statistics. For instance, competence within survey methodology, econometrics, time series analysis, biostatistics, machine learning, and big data analysis are considered additional qualifications.
