As a result of setting up a joint Financial Mathematics Programme with Nanjing University of Technology (NJUT), the School of Mathematics and Statistics invites applications for two lectureships with a starting date of 1 September 2014 or as soon as possible thereafter. The School offers MMath and BSc undergraduate courses, including the joint BSc Financial Mathematics Programme with NJUT in which students study mathematics and statistics for three years in Nanjing before coming to Sheffield for the final year of more specialized courses. The School also runs a long-established MSc in Statistics and provides service teaching of mathematics to other parts of the University.

The School has a strong research ethos and an international reputation in research, with eleven research clusters in Algebra and Algebraic Geometry, Category Theory, Differential Geometry, Fluid Dynamics, Mathematical Biology and Environment, Number Theory, Particle Astrophysics and Gravitation, Probability, Solar Physics, Statistics and Topology.

We are looking for candidates with a strong record of high quality research linking to the existing strengths of the School, and able to teach at undergraduate and postgraduate level and to contribute to our Financial Mathematics Programme. You will have a PhD or equivalent experience and an established record of publishing work in high quality journals. An interest in spending two or more months of the year on concentrated teaching in Nanjing would be an advantage.
