Group Leader
MRC Biostatistics Unit , Cambridge, UK
The MRC Biostatistics Unit, one of Europe's leading biostatistics research institutions, is seeking a Group Leader to develop an independent scientific programme, investigating statistical method for the analysis of high throughput data in biomedicine, for example next generation sequencing data or other high resolution data used to investigate complex diseases.
Candidates should have a PhD and will have completed a period of postdoctoral training or equivalent, with an excellent track record, and show outstanding potential for independent research. The successful candidate will lead a small team and substantial funding will be available.
This appointment will be made at either Programme Leader or Programme Leader-track level, depending on achievements and experience. Candidates for Programme Leader position should have a strong international track record of relevant independent research and a proven ability to lead a research team, pursuing original approaches to long-term research goals.
A Programme Leader-track appointment will be made for those who demonstrate the potential to develop into Programme Leaders within six years. Candidates with appropriate levels of experience may be given responsibility for oversight of core scientific activities within the LMB. Salaries are competitive (Programme Leader-track £35,935-£48,000 per annum; Programme Leader £45,213-£70,000 per annum).

Core-funding by the Medical Research Council provides long-term support for ambitious projects, while administrative duties are minimal and no teaching is required. Appointment at either level will be made with the resources for 1 postdoc appointment to support the developing programme.
