Assistant Professor in Statistics or Applied Probability (Fixed-Term)

Salary: £36914 to £49553 per annum (pro-rata if applicable) depending on
skills and experience. Salary progression beyond this scale is subject
to performance.
We are looking for an Assistant Professor to deliver high quality
teaching and undertake original research of international excellence in
Statistics or Applied Probability, complementing and enhancing the
current activity of the Statistics and Probability Section.
The School of Mathematical Sciences was ranked in the top ten for both
research power and grade point average in the Mathematical Sciences in
REF 2014. The highly research active and growing Statistics and
Probability Section comprises 15 permanent academic staff including the
recent recruitment of 3 Professors in Statistics. The Section has
research strengths in the broad areas of Bayesian statistics,
computational statistics and machine learning, uncertainty
quantification, applied probability, and stochastic processes with
internationally leading research groups in epidemic modelling and shape
and object data analysis.
We welcome applications from excellent candidates in any area of
Statistics or Applied Probability. We are looking for a proactive,
organised appointee who can evidence:
- A PhD, or equivalent in Statistics, Applied Probability or a relevant
field (PhD either awarded or submitted or within 3 months of a hard
submission deadline)
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Good pedagogical skills required to teach a range of statistics and
probability (including service) modules.
- Proven track-record in publishing research work of international
quality in Statistics or Applied probability.
This is a fixed term post which is available from 01 September 2021 (or
as soon as possible thereafter) for a period of 3 years. Hours of work
are full-time (36.25 hours); however applications are also welcome from
candidates wishing to work part-time (minimum 29 hours per week).
