The Institute for Mathematical Stochastics at the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science of the Georg-August-University of Göttingen invites applications for a
PostDoc Position (all genders welcome)
starting from November 1, 2020 or later for an initial duration of two years. The salary is in accordance with the German public service salary scale (E13 TV-L) at 100% of the regular working hours (currently 39.8 hours per week).
We are looking for highly-motivated applicants with a very good PhD thesis in mathematics who have some significant background in spatial stochastic processes and/or spatial statistics. Their research work may range anywhere from purely theoretical to fairly applied. An interplay of both along with good programming skills is an asset.
The advertised position is associated with the Chair of Spatial Stochastics of Prof. Dominic Schuhmacher. The PostDoc is expected to enter actively in research collaborations at the institute within topics of spatial stochastic processes and spatial statistics. Such topics include but are not limited to: correlation in (marked) point processes, convergence behaviour of point processes and random graphs evolving in time, Wasserstein distances for spatial processes, statistics of point processes and random fields including MCMC methods for Bayesian statistics, neural networks for point process and random field data. In addition the position offers the freedom to do own independent research. Finishing a habilitation or the willingness to work toward it is very welcome.
Teaching duties for an equivalent of 4 lessons a week during the semester involve support for the lecture cycle "Spatial Stochastics" and the co-organization of seminars. Good English skills are important, German skills are not required.
Mathematicians from outside Germany are particularly encouraged to apply. The University of Göttingen is an equal opportunities employer and places particular emphasis on fostering career opportunities for women. Qualified women are therefore strongly encouraged to apply in fields in which they are underrepresented. The university has committed itself to being a family-friendly institution and supports their employees in balancing work and family life. The mission of the University is to employ a greater number of severely disabled persons. Applications from severely disabled persons with equivalent qualifications will be given preference.
