Decision making is an inherent and essential characteristic of human beings that reflects their degree of evolution, knowledge and freedom. Until the mid-1970s, scientific decision making focused on the Product (the decision itself). For the next 20 years, it focused on the Process (decisional process). Since the end of the 20th century, it has focused on ‘the third P’, the Person (learning and education of the individual and the systems).
Decision Support Systems (DSS), understood as information systems that interactively support the decision-making process of individuals and groups in life, public, and private organizations, and other entities, have traditionally been used to help make better decisions in the resolution of highly complex problems (structured, semi-structured, and unstructured). These problems are characterized by the existence of multiple actors, scenarios, and criteria, both tangible and intangible.
The Knowledge Society is a space oriented to the talent, intelligence, imagination, and creativity of the human being. Aided by the development of Information and Communication Technology, the future DSS should incorporate: (i) the interdependence and interrelationships among factors and actors, respectively (a holistic vision of reality); (ii) the collaborative readiness of the actors (aptitude and attitude) in the resolution process and the conjoint construction of a better world (individual and social training and education); and (iii) the importance of the human factor: the explicit consideration of the intangible, subjective, and emotional.
This special issue welcomes articles on methodological, technological, and practical developments and tools, associated with the incorporation into DSS of those aspects related to the influence of mind (e.g., virtual and augmented reality, perception, visual data analysis, mood, emotions, personality, attitude, and motivation) and cognition (e.g., preferences, arguments that support decision making, graphical visualization) in decision-making processes.
The deadline for submissions is July 31, 2020. We encourage authors who will present their work at the EWG-DSS 6th ICDSST 2020 “Cognitive Decision Support Systems and Technologies” to be held at the Faculty of Economics and Business, Zaragoza, Spain, from May 27 to 29, 2020, to submit their manuscripts. However, this Call for Papers is also open to the entire community of academics and practitioners.
Papers will be peer-reviewed according to the editorial policy of the International Transactions in Operational Research (ITOR), published by the International Federation of Operational Research Societies. Contributions should be prepared according to the instructions to authors in the journal homepage. Authors should upload their contributions using the submission site http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/itor, indicating in their cover letter that the paper is intended for this special issue.
