Visiting Assistant Professor of Statistics at the University of California Santa Cruz

The faculty in Applied Mathematics and Statistics (AMS) at the University of California, Santa Cruz invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor faculty position in Statistics. We seek outstanding applicants with strong commitment to teaching, research, and service. In this search, we have a preference for candidates who specialize in any aspect of Bayesian theory, methods or applications. The campus is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their research, teaching, and/or service.

AMS is part of the Baskin School of Engineering. Having started with three faculty in 2001, AMS currently has twelve faculty (six in applied mathematics and six in statistics). We currently supervise about 50 graduate students, and we expect our graduate program to continue to grow. Other existing programs in the School of Engineering include Bioinformatics, Bioengineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Technology and Information Management. On campus, opportunities for collaboration exist with outstanding colleagues in the departments of Astronomy and Astrophysics, Chemistry, Earth and Planetary Sciences, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Economics, Mathematics, Molecular, Cell and Developmental Biology, Ocean Sciences, and Physics; off-campus, opportunities for collaboration exist with outstanding investigators at NASA Ames, Livermore and Los Alamos National Laboratories, the USGS and National Marine Fisheries Service (in Santa Cruz), and the National Center for Atmospheric Research (in Colorado), and possibilities exist for collaborations with a broad range of excellent researchers in Silicon Valley and beyond. Research and instruction are supported by excellent computing facilities and state-of-the-art laboratories.
