As part of ongoing expansion in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, Lancaster University is currently seeking applications for a Professor of Statistics. This is a new post offering the successful candidate the opportunity to join one of the UK’s largest, strongest and most forward-thinking statistics research groups, comprising 26 academic staff, 10 research associates and over 40 FTE research students. In the 2014 UK-wide assessment of research (REF), Mathematical Sciences at Lancaster was ranked fifth overall and third in terms of the impact of its research. The Statistics group has a vibrant research environment playing a primary role in major research activities including the EPSRC-funded Centre for Doctoral Training STOR-i (www.lancaster.ac.uk/stor-i) and StatScale Programme Grant (www.statscale.org). It is a key partner in Lancaster’s thriving Data Science Institute (www.lancs.ac.uk/dsi).

We invite applications from excellent candidates with a proven international track record in statistical research. We particularly encourage applications from those engaged in methodological statistics research that arises from real-world challenges in the medical, environmental or social sciences. The appointee will benefit from an exciting research environment connecting methodological developments with real-world applications, opportunities to supervise excellent postgraduate students through the STOR-i Centre for Doctoral Training and dedicated support services for research, business engagement and impact.
