JOB: Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Statistics, Massey University, Albany New Zealand

Lecturer/Senior Lecturer - Statistics (A067-13SF) Applications are invited for a position in Statistics at the level of Lecturer/Senior Lecturer as appropriate to qualifications and experience. Appointment to a higher level will be considered for extraordinary candidates.

The Institute of Natural and Mathematical Sciences (INMS) is a newly formed multi-disciplinary research and teaching Institute within the College of Sciences at Massey University’s Albany campus incorporating Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. In conjunction with world-class researchers in the closely-linked Institute for Advanced Study (IAS), INMS has special strengths in theoretical and computational physics and chemistry, quantitative biology and ecology, evolution, genetics, mathematical biology, computational science and modelling of complex systems.

Candidates for the position should have excellent academic credentials and be building an international reputation in an area of Statistics aligned with the goals of the Institute. The successful candidate will be expected to make a significant contribution to the Institute's research outputs, to attract external research funding, to teach at any level, to engage in new teaching initiatives, to mentor postgraduate students, to form cross-disciplinary linkages, to enhance the Statistics curriculum and INMS programmes and to embrace the theme of innovation at Massey’s Albany campus.

Candidates with strong demonstrated capabilities in inter-disciplinary activities, particularly in the natural sciences, will be seen favourably. In particular, INMS seeks to grow and develop its inter-disciplinary programmes in teaching and research in the areas of quantitative biology and ecology, biostatistics, bioinformatics, ecological statistics and marine ecology. The current Statistics teaching programme caters to students in these areas and also to those in business, engineering, psychology, economics, finance, and other disciplines. Candidates with interests in the application of Statistics in any of these areas, including through developing linkages with the College of Business or the College of Health, are also encouraged to apply.
