The Department of Statistics and Data Sciences at The University of Texas at Austin invites applications for a faculty appointment at the level of Assistant Professor to begin in Fall 2014.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate statistics courses, develop an externally funded research program, supervise graduate students, collaborate with other faculty, and be involved in service to the university and the profession.
Preference will be given to candidates whose core research interests in statistical methodology are accompanied by evidence of well-developed collaborative applications in natural sciences, liberal arts, or engineering.
Minimum qualifications are an earned Ph.D. in statistics or a related area, and evidence of excellence in teaching and research.
The Department of Statistics and Data Sciences currently has 12 regular-rank faculty in statistics and machine learning whose associative affiliations encompass biology, business, computer science, mathematics, neuroscience, and psychology. Although the Department is new, it is growing rapidly into a globally recognized center of excellence for research and education in statistical methodology, applied statistical modeling, computationally intensive statistical methods, and machine learning. The Department has access to world-class computing resources through a partnership with the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC), as well as abundant opportunities for interdisciplinary research at one of the most intellectually vibrant universities in the country.
