Applications are invited for a researcher in Statistics at the Statistical Sciences Research Institute, University of Southampton.
You will work on the NERC funded project: “Quantifying annual cycles of macronutrient fluxes and net effect of transformations in an estuary:
their responses to stochastic storm driven events” under the supervision of Prof Sujit Sahu. This is a multi-disciplinary, multi-university project led by the Ocean and Earth Sciences within the University of Southampton, for further information please see the dedicated project website http://www.christchurch-macronutrients.org.uk/.
You will develop model based statistical inference techniques to study nutrient dynamics in annual and seasonal periods from data collected three times daily from three monitoring sites in the rivers Stour and Avon near the Christchurch Harbour estuary in the UK. A novel aspect of this research is investigation across short time scales identified through the occurrence of a storm event. The RA will also have many opportunities to work with other scientists in the team.
You will have a PhD in statistics or related area and research experience in statistical modelling. Preference will be given to applicants with a background in Bayesian statistical modelling, especially time series modelling, and Markov chain Monte Carlo.
