Join us in developing new probabilistic modelling methods that can realise the benefits of large personal genomic data sets while ensuring strict privacy for the data subjects!
We are seeking 2 postdocs to work on privacy-aware analysis and learning with genomic data. The positions are offered for 24-36 months. The positions are with the Statistical Machine Learning and Bioinformatics group at Helsinki Institute for Information Technology HIIT, University of Helsinki and Aalto University, supervised by Dr Antti Honkela and Prof. Samuel Kaski.
Together with collaborators in information security and biomedicine, you will develop new machine learning and probabilistic modelling methods that enable accessing, analysing and modelling personal genomic data under strict privacy guarantees. The project includes collaboration with the Computational Biology Research Center at the Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) Japan (Kana Shimizu, Koji Tsuda, Goichiro Hanaoka).
The position is based in Helsinki, which is a leading hub of computer science and information technology. Helsinki has been ranked as the World's Most Livable City (Monocle, 2011), and is the capital city of Finland. Finland is in the top 10 of the most highly educated nations in the world (OECD, 2013), and has been selected as the world's best country to live in (Newsweek, 2010).
A successful applicant should have a strong background in machine learning, probabilistic modelling, statistics or information security, and an interest in the other topics. Enthusiasm for multidisciplinary research combining machine learning/probabilistic modelling and information security with a biomedical application as well as interaction with international collaborators is essential.
The application deadline is 23 May 2014. For more information and application instructions, please see http://www.helsinki.fi/recruitment/index.html?id=86618
