Research Assistant - NIHR Research Methods Fellow (Ref MBP01105)
Salary Grade 6 - £25,759 to £29,837per annum
Fixed Term Contract for up to 2 years
ROLE:
The fellow will undertake the MSc in Medical Statistics at the Department of Health Sciences, University of Leicester on a full-time basis during the first year.
In the second year the fellow will undertake a methodological research project to identify the barriers to synthesising effectiveness evidence to inform appraisals of public health interventions, and to evaluate, and where appropriate develop, potential methodological solutions. This will involve extending a recent comprehensive review (Achana J Clin Epid 2014) of NICE public health appraisals with the aim of assessing why effectiveness evidence is primarily summarised in narrative form rather than synthesised. The feasibility of applying the methods considered will be assessed through a case study in the area of accident prevention.
The fellow will also have the opportunity to develop a PhD proposal to submit for further Fellowship funding, and will supervise a 3-month NIHR Research Methods Internship.
REQUIREMENTS:
You will have an honours degree (2.1 or higher) with a substantial mathematics or statistics content and recent relevant experience in a comparable role.
