The Department of Statistics at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas has an opening for up to three 9 month tenure track Assistant Professor positions for the 2015-2016 academic year with a preferred start date of August 16, 2015.
Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in statistics, building a strong research program that may include interdisciplinary research, advising research projects of MS and PhD students, and serving on departmental or college committees.
Required qualifications include a PhD in Statistics or in a related area with PhD research in statistics or biostatistics by the start of employment, potential for excellence in teaching advanced graduate level statistics courses, outstanding research potential in statistics or biostatistics, and excellent communication skills. Preferred qualifications include a background or interest in interdisciplinary research. Potential areas of research focus include, but are not limited to Bayesian analysis, computational statistics, high dimensional data analysis and experimental design/mixed models.
Collaborative research opportunities are enhanced by the existence of multi-disciplinary research institutes and centers, such as the Institute of Computational Comparative Medicine, the Nanotechnology Innovation Center, the Ecological Genomics Institute, the Kansas Lipidomics Research Center, the Konza Prairie Biological Station and K-State Research and Extension. Current university initiatives include the Global Food Systems and Big Data.
The Department was founded in 1959 and offers BS, MS, and PhD degrees. It has 15 full-time faculty positions with research interests covering a wide range of topics in both theory and applications. The Department's annual Applied Statistics in Agriculture Conference just completed its 26th consecutive year.
