Description
A postdoctoral fellowship opportunity in statistics is available at the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Université Laval. The fellow will work at developing Monte Carlo methods to evaluate and maximize likelihood functions in cases where the normalizing constant is unavailable in closed form, and will apply these methods to directional data analysis (see references below). This work will be jointly supervised by Louis-Paul Rivest and Thierry Duchesne and will normally take place from September 1st, 2015 to August 31, 2016.
Qualifications
* Recent PhD in statistics, probability or mathematics
* Excellent knowledge of the R software
* Good theoretical and practical knowledge of Monte Carlo methods
Application
Candidates who wish to apply must file an application on the CRM-ISM postdoctoral fellowship webpage *before December 12, 2014*, see http://www.crm.umontreal.ca/~crmism/index_en.html
Funding for this project is already secured and the fellowship will take place regardless of the results of the CRM-ISM competition.
