The faculty in Applied Mathematics and Statistics (AMS) at the University of California, Santa Cruz invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor faculty position in Statistics. We seek outstanding applicants with strong commitment to teaching, research, and service. In this search, we have a preference for candidates who specialize in any aspect of Bayesian theory, methods or applications. The campus is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their research, teaching, and/or service.

AMS is part of the Baskin School of Engineering. Having started with three faculty in 2001, AMS currently has twelve faculty (six in applied mathematics and six in statistics). We currently supervise about 50 graduate students, and we expect our graduate program to continue to grow. Other existing programs in the School of Engineering include Bioinformatics, Bioengineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Technology and Information Management. On campus, opportunities for collaboration exist with outstanding colleagues in the departments of Astronomy and Astrophysics, Chemistry, Earth and Planetary Sciences, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Economics, Mathematics, Molecular, Cell and Developmental Biology, Ocean Sciences, and Physics; off-campus, opportunities for collaboration exist with outstanding investigators at NASA Ames, Livermore and Los Alamos National Laboratories, the USGS and National Marine Fisheries Service (in Santa Cruz), and the National Center for Atmospheric Research (in Colorado), and possibilities exist for collaborations with a broad range of excellent researchers in Silicon Valley and beyond. Research and instruction are supported by excellent computing facilities and state-of-the-art laboratories.

RANK: Visiting Assistant Professor

SALARY: Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Estimated range of $73,000 – $75,000 for a nine-month salary, although this title is eligible for additional summer compensation.

POSITION AVAILABLE: July 1, 2013 TERM OF APPOINTMENT: One year, contingent upon availability of funding. Should the hiring unit propose reappointment for a second year, a review to assess performance will be conducted. In addition, reappointment is contingent upon availability of funding.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. or equivalent in Statistics or a closely related field, with demonstrated potential for excellence in research and a strong commitment to graduate and undergraduate education.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Specializing in any aspect of Bayesian theory, methods or applications; statistical training and experience in data analysis.

MIT is launching a cross-Institute center focusing on research and education in Statistics and Information Systems. Consequently, MIT is seeking candidates for a faculty position starting in September 2015 or thereafter. The appointment will be at the assistant or untenured associate professor level. The appointment will be made in partnership with another MIT department. In special cases, a senior faculty appointment may be possible. Faculty duties include teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, research, and supervision of student research. We will consider candidates with backgrounds and interests in the broad areas of Statistics ranging from fundamental theoretical focus to applications of Statistics in various domains in Engineering, Management, Sciences, Life Sciences and Social Sciences.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science, Operations Research, Economics, Mathematics or a related field by the start of their employment. El solicitante deberá tener una edad comprendida entre los 30 y 45 años.

3. DOTACIÓN Y PLAZOS DE EJECUCIÓN

Se concederán al menos 55 becas para el conjunto de la convocatoria, dotada cada una de ellas con un importe bruto máximo de 40.000 euros.
Los proyectos presentados tendrán una duración mínima de 6 meses y máxima de 18 meses, desde que el beneficiario suscriba el compromiso de aceptación de la beca. El proyecto objeto de la ayuda solicitada deberá estar completado al finalizar este período.

4. MODO Y PLAZO DE PRESENTACIÓN DE SOLICITUDES
Todas las solicitudes se presentarán exclusivamente a través de la aplicación disponible en el sitio web de la Fundación BBVA: www.fbbva.es.
