Visiting Positions with Duke

The Department of Statistical Science at Duke University invites applications for several Visiting Faculty positions to begin in Fall 2014. Preference will be given to candidates whose core statistical science research interests are complemented by collaborative research interests in computer science, neurosciences, economics or finance, other areas of the social and policy sciences, among others. We are particularly interested in applicants with demonstrated experience in complex stochastic modelling and computation for large-scale problems and data sets.

The Department is an internationally recognized center of excellence for research and education in the development and application of contemporary statistical methodology. Particular emphasis is directed toward Bayesian modeling in many scientific fields as well as computationally intensive methods. The Department offers outstanding computational facilities and opportunities for interdisciplinary research. We currently have 19 regular rank faculty, another 14 visiting, adjunct, and postdoctoral faculty, and over 60 graduate students. Beyond core research in statistical and computational sciences, we have many collaborative interactions with multiple other Duke departments, institutes and centers, including the new Information Initiative at Duke (iiD). Complementary interactions involve long-standing associations with the Statistical and Applied Mathematical Sciences Institute (SAMSI) and the National Institute of Statistical Science (NISS), located nearby in the Research Triangle Park.

Teaching activities come through our Statistical Science undergraduate major and both MS and PhD level courses and mentoring. At the graduate level, our internationally recognized PhD program is complemented by our MS in Statistical and Economic Modeling, and our new MS in Statistical Science which will open in fall 2014.
