Oxford two 5-year lecturerships

Departmental Lecturer (2 posts)

Department of Statistics, 1 South Parks Road, Oxford Grade 8: £37,756 - £45,053 with a discretionary range to £49,216 p.a.

The Department of Statistics wishes to appoint two full-time Departmental Lecturers as soon as possible after 1 June 2014. This is a fixed-term contract of 5 years from that starting date.

The appointees will initiate and undertake original research projects independently and in collaboration with academics in the department. They will be supported to apply for grants and co-supervise DPhil students. They will lecture, tutor and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students; duties will also include providing tutorial (college) teaching and associated duties. These positions are an excellent opportunity for early career academics to establish a programme of research. The appointees will benefit from college associations, a distinctive feature of these Oxford posts and one which greatly enriches the Lecturer's academic environment. Of the two positions available, one will be associated with University College and the other with Somerville College; some additional benefits are provided by the colleges.

Previous postholders in similar positions have moved to permanent academic positions and to a career in a world-leading company in the technology sector.

The positions are open to those who hold a PhD in Applied Probability or Statistics, with post-qualification research experience. Candidates should have a strong publication record of their own original research and the ability to teach core topics in applied and computational statistics and statistical methods. The appointees must be able to join in and interact with one or more of the existing research groups in the department. Candidates with research interests in Statistical Machine Learning, Computational Statistics, Statistical Methods or Statistical Genetics are particularly encouraged to apply.
