CENTER FOR STATISTICAL SCIENCE

TSINGHUA UNIVERSITY, BEIJING, P.R. CHINA

The Center for Statistical Science is newly established at Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, under the leadership of Professors Jun Liu and Xihong Lin from Harvard University and Professor Zhizhong Li from the Industrial Engineering Department of Tsinghua University. An educational committee and a scientific committee consisting of world-renowned statisticians have been established to oversee the development of the center. The center aims to grow to a world-class research and educational institute in statistics, with a first-rate faculty and a first-rate educational program. As a top university in China, Tsinghua provides an ideal environment for conducting theoretical and applied statistical research with ample opportunities for interdisciplinary collaborations. The center has adopted the new tenure system for its faculty, which ensures its continuous emphasis on innovation and creativity in research and teaching. All faculty members of the center can serve as advisors of PhD students.

The center has multiple openings at all ranks (tenure-track Assistant Professor, tenure-track or tenured Associate Professor, and Full Professor) and seeks applicants for these positions in broadly defined areas of statistics (e.g., theoretical statistics, applied statistics, computational statistics, biostatistics, statistical genomics, Bayesian statistics, statistical machine-learning, big data analysis, etc). The salary packages for these positions are internationally competitive and commensurate with qualifications. Individuals with a strong research and education background in statistics and biostatistics are particularly encouraged to apply. Successful applicants are expected to join the center in the fall semester of 2015. Applicants should obtain a Ph.D. degree in statistics or closely related fields by the time of appointment. The applicant for the tenure-track positions is also responsible for arranging for the three recommendation letters to be sent to the above address.
