Associate professor in statistics (tenure track)

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics, in the Faculty of Mathematics and Science is currently seeking to recruit an associate professor (tenure track) in statistics starting 1.8.2016 or as soon as possible thereafter for a fixed period of five years.

The associate professorship (tenure track) in question is in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics in the Faculty of Mathematics and Science. The duties of the associate professor are related to the development of research and management of statistics and education in statistics at the master’s degree and post-graduate levels. The associate professor must have strong international experience in the field which should also be compatible with the research profile of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics and the university. In education, the associate professor must be able to teach master’s and post-graduate courses extensively and supervise the students´ in the thesis writing process. In addition, the associate professor is expected to participate in the field´s societal interactions. The associate professor is expected to take part in acquiring of supplementary funding.

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Jyväskylä in central Finland is a world class research institution training mathematicians and statisticians for diverse jobs in industry, education, and academic research. The main research areas in the department are mathematical analysis, stochastics, inverse problems, and statistics with their applications.

The appointment is for a fixed period of five years. An especially distinguished and unquestionably qualified person may exceptionally be appointed directly to the position of professor presuming there is no candidate available who is more competent and suitable candidate for the position. The current professor tenure track compliments the four-level career path intended for researchers. Before the period ends, the associate professor is evaluated to determine if he/she fulfills the requirements for being offered the position of professor.
