This is an exciting 3-year opportunity for a full-time early career researcher with a Masters or PhD in statistics or a related quantitative subject (e.g. biostatistics, social statistics, epidemiology, quantitative social sciences, psychology) to join the Population Wellbeing and Environment Research Lab (PowerLab) at the University of Wollongong (UOW) located on the University's main campus in Wollongong, Australia.

The Associate Research Fellow/Research Fellow will work as part of PowerLab on a project grant funded by Horticulture Innovation Australia, the University of Wollongong’s Faculty of Social Science and ‘Global Challenges’ initiative. The Associate Research Fellow/Research Fellow will help to design, implement, interpret and write-up scientific papers that investigate the relationships between neighbourhood green space and range of health and developmental outcomes during birth, early childhood and adolescence, middle-to-older aged adults and seniors. The Associate Research Fellow/ Research Fellow will also provide statistical consultation to fellow members of the PowerLab.

The position requires a strong background in applied statistics and have demonstrable experience in analysing sources of longitudinal and/or health service use data with multilevel models and other advanced statistical methods; a strong understanding of different types of longitudinal study design and experience in using techniques to address challenges related to missing data and confounding.

This project is led by Dr Xiaoqi Feng and Associate Professor Thomas Astell-Burt and brings together over 12 investigators from 4 faculties in the University of Wollongong, as well as researchers from the Early Start Research Institute, the Illawarra Health and Medical Research Institute, and the South Western Sydney Local Health District. The project is based in the PowerLab, which is directed by Dr Feng and Associate Professor Astell-Burt.
