Research Assistant in Statistics (128366)

Grade 6: £27,629 – £32,958 per annum

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Research Assistant in Statistics to join Associate Professor Daniel Prieto-Alhambra’s Musculoskeletal Pharmaco- and Device Epidemiology research group, based in the Botnar Research Centre, Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences, University of Oxford.

As a Research Assistant in Statistics, you will support ongoing research studies within Professor Prieto-Alhambra’s group. Your primary responsibility will be to take a leading role in the statistical analysis of data from routinely collected data sources, including The National Joint Registry (NJR), Hospital Episode Statistics (HES) Database, and the Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD). Main duties will include regression modelling, time series analysis and clinical risk prediction. Additional responsibilities will include contributing to the development of innovative methodologies and techniques, maintaining effective communication with members of the research team and collaborating centres, contributing to existing and new research projects, contributing to publications in peer-reviewed journals, giving presentations and attending conferences to disseminate research results and contributing to NDORMS teaching programmes.

You must have a relevant post-graduate degree in statistics and experience in biostatistics. Knowledge of medical statistics and expertise in handling large patient level datasets is essential, as is expertise in statistical analysis packages and demonstrable practical use of IT systems. You will be self-motivated with proven organisational and time management skills and able to communicate results effectively in writing and verbally. Experience in simulation studies and pharmaco- and/or device epidemiology as well as experience of working with electronic medical records/routinely collected data would be desirable.

This is a full-time fixed-term post for 2 years in the first instance, commencing in October 2017.
