Task description
You prepare a doctoral thesis in the field of Mathematical Statistics.
Nowadays statisticians are confronted with complex data (large number of variables, different types of incompleteness, measurement errors, outliers, …) coming from a variety of scientific fields. Although research questions are specific for each scientific field, they do have statistical modeling as important common tool, i.e. they all try to understand and unravel the relation between a response of interest and explanatory variables taking into account the specific complexity of the data at hand. In this project the relation between a response and explanatory variables is modeled in a flexible way for complex data.
Profile
You can submit outstanding academic results;
You are intrinsically motivated, think analytically and creatively, and work in an organized and focused manner;
You have a strong interest in (mathematical) statistics (methodological research as well as applications to real data and computer simulations);
You have a good knowledge of written and spoken English.
Diploma
Master in Mathematics, (Bio-)Statistics or Engineering (or equivalent).
Employment
Scholarship for a period of 2 x 2 years (with evaluation after 2 years).
