Post Summary:
These projects will provide students with research training at the exciting nexus between statistical signal processing, telecommunications, and probability modelling. One of our main challenges is to evolve tractable on-line algorithms in computationally constrained environments. Our research on variational Bayesian filtering will lead to new designs for mobile digital receivers. Another focus is on minimizing the risk associated with our decisions in telecommunications resource allocation problems. Finally, we need to design robust Bayesian solutions in cases where there is significant model uncertainty, in order to cope with the wide classes of signal and channel that arise in modern telecommunications networks. We will develop mathematically sophisticated Bayesian nonparametric techniques for these problems, with the promise of more reliable system performance.
