Job: 2-year postdoctoral research assistant in statistical genetics

They are looking for a suitable candidate to develop new statistical methods and software for predicting the future performance of animals (e.g. milk yield etc.) based on their genetic traits. The main task will involve the development and extension of mixed effects models applied to Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs). The required candidate is expected to be familiar with these techniques and able to create models and software which will improve predictive performance. This post is part of a larger project which will likely lead to commercial opportunities.

Candidates must meet the following criteria:
- PhD in Statistics, Bioinformatics or Machine Learning;
• Experience in one or more of: regression trees, random forests, genome wide association studies, linear mixed models;
• Experience with programming languages R, C, C++, or Python;
• A demonstrated commitment to research and publications;
• An understanding of the operational requirements for a successful research project;
• Evidence of research activity (publications, conference presentations, awards) and future scholarly output (working papers, research proposals, and ability to outline a research project;
• Excellent Communication Skills (Oral, Written, Presentation etc.);
• Excellent Organisational and Administrative skills including a proven ability to work to deadlines.

The role is for up to 23 months with salary in the range €33,975 - €38,155 per annum depending on experience.
