The Department for Epidemiology (EPID) at the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI) in Braunschweig, headed by Professor Dr. med. Gérard Krause, is looking for a Statistician (PhD Student)
The Department for Epidemiology has about 40 employees. Our research focusses on occurrence, transmission and the prevention of infectious diseases in the human population. Within the German National Cohort (NAKO Gesundheitsstudie, http://nako.de/informationen-auf-englisch), we represent the topic of immunology and infection. We are also active in DZIF (German Center for Infection Research; www.dzif.de/en) particularly in the “Translational Infrastructure Epidemiology” (www.dzif.de/en/infrastructures/epidemiology). In addition, we have close co-operations within and outside of the HZI, such as Hannover Medical School, the Robert Koch Institute, WHO and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC). Furthermore, we run the PhD Programme “Epidemiology” (www.helmholtz-hzi.de/phdepi).

Application requirements
• University degree in statistics/biometry or related sciences
• Experience in or profound knowledge of the analysis of epidemiological or biomedical studies
• Very good knowledge of statistics software like R or STATA
• Scientific creativity, capacity for teamwork and preparedness to learn to understand disciplines such as medicine, public health, epidemiology, microbiology
• Basic knowledge of German and at least a fairly good command of English

It will be of advantage to have

• Experience in/knowledge of the design and programming of software applications, especially in the area of eHealth and mHealth
• Experience in/knowledge of mathematical modelling
• Experience in/knowledge of data base programming, especially Access or MySQL
• Experience in/knowledge of bioinformatics

Your tasks would comprise
• Statistical planning and analysis of epidemiological studies
• Supervised teaching
• Supervision of PhD students with regard to statistical methods
• Advising external and internal cooperation partners in the context of statistical methods of infectious diseases epidemiology
• Scientific publications in the field of statistics or infectious diseases epidemiology

It will be of advantage to have
