2 postdoc positions funded by ARC Center of Excellence on Mathematical and Statistical Frontiers

Postdoctoral Research Associate,
School of Economics
UNSW School of Business
Number of positions: Up to two positions.
Duration: 23 months from time of appointment, with a possible extension for a further 12 months.
Deadline: May 11, 2015.

POSITION SUMMARY
To conduct research funded by the ARC Centre of Excellence for Mathematical & Statistical Frontiers (ACEMS) (http://acems.org.au/). The project will develop exact and approximate Bayesian methods to deal with problems where the likelihood is intractable, either because it cannot be computed analytically, or because it is too expensive to compute.
The focus will be on methods that are semiparametric and nonparametric and that are scalable in terms of the number of observations, dimension of the variables and that are amenable to distributed computing.
The research will aim to apply the methods in a number of areas including Health research, models of decision-making from cognitive science, analysis of spatial and spatial temporal data, and financial models. The research will be led by Robert Kohn who is a Chief Investigator of ACEMS and there will also be opportunities to work with the other researchers from the UNSW node of ACEMS including Scott Sisson (Approximate Bayesian Computation, symbolic data analysis, big data, distributed statistical computing), Chris Carter (sequential Monte Carlo, multivariate analysis and graphical models) , and Sally Wood (mixture models, panel data, spectral analysis).

For further details see REF 10706 at http://www.jobs.unsw.edu.au/ from Friday 10th April and also please contact Professor Robert Kohn on This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or +61 424802159.

Concurrently, a third postdoc position will be advertised to work on Health and Health Economics related problems
