This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious researcher to join a dynamic research group and carry out innovative research in the development of advanced statistical and computational methods for important questions in biomedicine and epidemiology. The position will be in the Statistics Group in the Dept. of Mathematics, and will be supervised by Dr Alex Lewin. You will join a growing group that conducts cutting-edge research in statistical methods for high-dimensional data. The post holder will also work with Prof. Sylvia Richardson, Director of the MRC Biostatistics Unit in Cambridge and Dr Leonardo Bottolo in the Dept. Maths at Imperial College London, and with other biostatisticians and epidemiologists in Brunel and in the MRC-HPA Centre for Environment and Health at Imperial College London.

In recent years, the emergence of sophisticated technologies (genomics, epigenomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics) have enabled the simultaneous measurement of thousands of disease biomarkers. This project will develop methods and software capable of analysing multiple high-dimensional data sets and clinical outcomes simultaneously, enabling researchers to model mediation effects of intermediate exposures and biological markers. The research will develop and implement Bayesian models for high-dimensional data integration and feature selection. The work forms part of an ongoing programme of research in highly-structured stochastic systems using cutting-edge techniques in Monte-Carlo Markov Chain methods for Bayesian models. There will be scope for the post holder to transition from mentored research to an independent research agenda.

The ideal candidate will hold a PhD or equivalent in statistics/computer science or related quantitative subject and have experience in coding multi-variate methods in statistics or machine learning.
