DEPARTMENT OF STATISTICS in association with Mansfield College
The Department of Statistics proposes to appoint a University Lecturer in Statistics from the 1st April 2014 or as soon as possible thereafter. The successful candidate will work at the Department of Statistics and will be appointed to a Senior Research Fellowship at Mansfield College under arrangements described in the further particulars. The combined University and College salary, on a scale currently from £43,312 per annum, is supplemented by a college housing allowance, currently £3576 per annum. The appointment will be initially for five years at which point, upon completion of a successful review, the post-holder will be eligible for reappointment to the retiring age.
The Department seeks candidates with interests in any field of Statistical research, across the full range from Theoretical to Applied Statistics, complementing the research interests of current members of the department. We particularly welcome candidates with research interests in modern statistical methods such as Scalable Methods for Large Data Sets, Computational Statistics, and Statistical Machine Learning. The successful candidate will have a PhD or equivalent degree in Statistics or related discipline, a strong, relevant research record published in leading peer-reviewed journals or conference proceedings, and the potential to attract appropriate research funding. The appointee will be given a light teaching load in the first years of this appointment, but must be able to lecture in a range of topics for the joint Mathematics and Statistics degree at Oxford and the MSc programme in Applied Statistics, provide relevant supervision of graduate students, tutorial teaching in Probability and Statistics for the first and second year of the Mathematics degrees, and other related duties.
